Bargain Hunting

Gaming, General, Shopping

I had one of those rare occurrences today that are usually called a “lie in.” They are actually all they’re cracked up to be. Imagine that! Anyway, after staying in bed until 10AM I got up and got myself ready. Alex went to the shop to get some more milk for a cup of tea and came back saying there was a car boot sale on at the community club near our house. I wasn’t really up for it but Alex really likes going so we went after lunch. I’m so glad I went. I’ve been meaning to get Meghan a little plastic table and chairs for a while and I found one today, for a whole £1.50! Meghan loves it and has already drawn all over which I suppose is a good thing but I’m so glad I found it. I pretty much ran over to it and bought it before anyone else had the chance to. I also got myself five books (two of which I’ve been wanting for ages) for £2.25. I’d list them but that would mean walking over to the other side of the living room to get them and you know, I’d rather not.

I’ve just bought a new 2GB Micro SD memory card for my R4 for my DS. I don’t know if I mentioned that Emelye broke my old one a while back. I’ve not got round to buying one until now. Since she did that, Emelye’s not been allowed on my DS and she brought hers today after not bringing it for a while. Its just made me miss playing on my DS. I have Zelda and Pokemon Diamond but I liked all the little games that I had (Cooking Mama, Brain Training) that I could just play for ten minutes and then move on to something else. Hopefully I’ll get it in the next week or so.

Amy’s coming round later on tonight hopefully to dye my hair. I’ve asked her to cut it for me too, just the length as its really doing my head in being so long. I’m not sure how much I want cut off yet but we’ll soon find out! It won’t be anything drastic as I’ll probably cry, haha.

Somehow, I forgot to congratulate the Zoot’s on the birth of AndyZ. I was receiving her Twitter updates so I knew when he was born so I don’t know how it slipped my mind. He’s such a cutie and he makes NikkiZ seem so big!

Theme Change… Again

Books, General, Internet/Website

I thought I had found the perfect theme – this one – and it won’t even work properly. The header is all messed up but hopefully, the owner said they will be making a newer version soon so fingers crossed its very soon. I love this theme. Its the right colours I wanted and its very easy to change around which I love. I love the fact that Twitter updates and Flickr are integrated into the theme. Only thats the actual problem with the theme… One of these days, I will actually make something of my own. Honest.

The internet is boring me to death at the moment. Since I don’t have any of my favourites, I’m running out of things to do. Obviously, there are the websites that I visit constantly but once I’ve looked at those, what else can I do? I was sat here last night refreshing the same pages over and over because I didn’t know what else to do. I can’t even do any paid blogs because PPP isn’t giving me much at the moment. My Real Rank has gone down by about 500 which is disappointing but I’m hoping to build it back up again.

I’ve been thinking about my new book giveaway but I can’t think which book I want to use. I have a few ideas but nothing definite yet. I do have a plan for a trilogy to give away but I need more people participating before I can afford to pay out that much. Anyway, the next book contest will be around the first week in June and I think I will make it last a little longer than it did last time.

Since the internet is boring me to tears, I’m going to go and read my book. I have 120 pages left so I’m hoping to get it finished in the next couple of days.

You ever notice how if you have like six bottles on wine in your fridge, you get looked on as an alcoholic? Have twenty bottles of wine in your wine racks and your sophisticated. Or just an intellectual alcoholic. One of them.

Edit: Just checked the theme in Internet Explorer and it looks perfect. I need to figure out whats wrong.

Ahh, A Sit Down

Books, Family, General

From 6.30PM until 7.10PM I just didn’t stop. I had to wash the dishes, make Meghan’s bottle, bath her, dress her, read her a story, brush her teeth and get her in bed. Phew, it was hard work but the BMT from Subway waiting for me downstairs was worth the rushing around :) . I feel rather sick now though… It was worth it!

I forgot to mention that I finished The Girls a couple of days ago. I really enjoyed it. I thought there was something missing but I couldn’t tell you what it was. I started on The Interpretation of Murder but I couldn’t get into it. I did give myself a chance with it, reading around 80 pages but it just wasn’t happening. There seemed to be a lot of description of things that didn’t need to be in there. I may give it another chance at some point but not right now. I took it back to the library along with the other books I’d already read and I came home with The Death List by Paul Johnston. Four chapters into it and I’m hooked. I was planning on reading Nineteen Minutes (yes I know I say that after every book I’ve finished) but I thought I would give this a chance. Its about author Matt Wells who is suffering from writers block. He recieves emails from a fan on a regular basis who turn from that innocent fan to a killer. It gets right into it at the very beginning so your not left waiting for chapter upon chapter for something to happen. I can’t wait to read more tonight. I’m trying to get Alex to read it after me because I know he’ll enjoy it. He’s not much of a reader (as in the only thing he reads is his drum magazine) but I’m trying my best!

Alex is doing some overtime tomorrow while he has the chance. Meghan and I are off to my parents house for lunch and then to my Nana and Grandad’s later in the afternoon. Three of my cousins from Australia are over in the UK at the moment and they are going down to my nana’s to see them for a while. I have never met anyone by my auntie and uncle (they are actually great auntie’s and uncle’s) so I’m quite excited.

Anyway, I’m off to watch the rest of Britian’s Got Talent. I love this show.

Okay, So Enough

Books, General, Meghan

Well you know how I’ve been going on about how lovely it is and how I’m really enjoying it? Well, I’m getting rather sick of the heat now. Yesterday it hit 29ºC. Now that is TOO hot. Us British people are not used to temperature’s of that sort. When it got to 20°C last week, that was hot enough. Meghan’s not coping very well with the heat. She’s sweating constantly which then makes her itch and makes her a moody baby. I put her in bed at 7PM like I always do last night and by 8.30PM she still wasn’t asleep and she was crying for me. I went upstairs and her vest was soaked. I stripped her off to just her nappy and she eventually got to sleep. I can’t open her bedroom window as it makes her door slam but I had both back windows open. Hopefully its not as warm today. At least I was able to wear my dress yesterday :) .

You know what I find really funny? When people are walking round talking to other people on their Bluetooth headset. Every single time I see someone doing it, I think they are talking to themselves and get quite worried until I see the headset. Whats better is when someone has hands free in their car and when you walk past the car, a business man (they’re usually usually all business men) are talking to nothing very loudly. My dad’s one of those.

Amy stayed last night so I’m trying to stay downstairs for as long as I can before I go upstairs to get a shower. Meghan knows she’s here so as soon as we get upstairs, she’ll start shouting her name. I think we might go to the library today, just for something to do. I’m not going to get anymore books out but Meghan needs some new ones. I’ve read all the ones she’s got and I’m getting a bit sick of them now. The Girls is good but I’m reading it pretty slowly. I gave around 200 pages left but I’ve only read just over 100. I think I might try and get a good amount of pages read today. If I get myself off here all day, I could easily read around 50 pages. Nineteen Minutes is still giving me evil looks because I haven’t read it yet.

Frustrated

Alex, Books, General, Internet/Website

Yesterday I decided that I wanted a to make my own WordPress theme. Thats fine and everything apart from the fact that I just can’t do it. No matter how hard I try, I can never get it to look like I want it to. Plus I don’t know exactly what I want. I have two different designs that I would like but I can’t decide which one I actually want over all. I want either something like Zoot’s or something like Manda’s. Its so frustrating not being able to actually make something that I want. Its not like I have the time to sit here all day trying to figure it out too. Maybe one day I will figure it out. Until then, I’ll just have to stick with pre-mades.

Alex is finally off work today. He’s just finished his long week (Thursday-Saturday, Sunday off, Monday-Wednesday) and I’m so glad. He’s off work now until Monday and I’m looking forward to spending all that time with him. He’s still in bed at the moment and we have Emelye until 7PM tonight and then overnight tomorrow night so Sunday is our only full day together. I hope the weather’s nice so we can do something. Its going to rain on Friday but hopefully the good weather comes back after that.

I finished reading My Swordhand is Singing yesterday night. It was okay. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. It was just a bit slow for me and the story took a while to get going. Plus there’s not much you can write about in only 194 pages. I’ve got my bookmark in The Girls by Lori Lansens but I haven’t started it yet.

I saw Jenn mention medigap in a blog the other day. I had to look it up to see what it was. I didn’t know there was something like that available. It makes me happy to be living in a country with the NHS so I don’t have to worry about health insurance.

Loving It

Books, Films, General

The weather is once again absolutely beautiful. I really want to get out today and do something but I have no idea what to do. Everything that I want to do is only accessible via car, which I don’t have. I rang my mum earlier and asked her to let me know if she’s going anywhere because I want to go with her. I don’t want to be stuck in the house on such a gorgeous day. I wish Alex was off work so we could go for a big walk together and take Meghan to the park. There’s nothing stopping me doing it on my own but I’d rather Alex be with me.

I really need to just go and get my provisional license so I can start my driving lessons. I keep saying it but then I don’t do anything about it. Money’s a bit tight at the moment though so its something I need to save for. Its not just passing your test and buying a car you need money for. You need to buy tax, auto insurance, the MOT and then petrol on top of that. Its an expensive thing owning a car but I can’t wait to have one.

My tattoo has been driving me mental for the past three days or so. Its so itchy and then when I scratch it (by rubbing it, don’t worry I’m not picking everything off!) it hurts. I’m hoping it fully heals in the next couple of days because I’m going to chop my whole arm off if it doesn’t stop itching. It doesn’t look to attractive at the moment either because its all flaky with the scabs coming off. What a lovely photo for you all! Haha.

I finished P.S. I Love You yesterday morning. I did enjoy it but I thought a part near the end was a bit rubbish. I’m now reading My Swordhand is Singing by Marcus Sedgwick. Its some teen vampire novel. I’m only on the third chapter but its not too bad. There are only 200 pages so I should have it finished by the weekend. I think I might start Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult after this one. I’ve been wanting to read it since I bought it. It looks so good.

I started watching 27 Dresses last night and I really love it. It has that stupid humor that I love – some of things I would say and do. I got to around an hour and a half but then Amy had to go home (she was with me last night) and as soon as she left, Alex came home from band practice so I didn’t manage to finish it. I’m hoping to watch the rest tonight. If Alex goes straight to bed after work, which I think he probably will, then I’ll definitely watch it. If not, I’ll probably have to wait until Thursday night. I also have P.S. I Love You to watch. I’m not expecting it to be as good as the book so I really want to watch it.

Getting Into It

Books, General, Internet/Website

I’m finally getting into P.S. I Love You. I can’t put it down now. I’m reading at any chance I get. I was thinking earlier that what I love about books is that I lose myself in it and nothing else seems to matter. But then again, I don’t like that fact that it does that to me. When I’m really into a book, its all I can think about and all I want to do is read. Plus the housework gets ignored and I can’t be bothered with cooking anything! I’m okay tonight though as Emelye has had a Sunday dinner at Alex’s Grandma’s house and she put some out for Meghan too so thats what she’s having for her dinner. Me and Alex can just have something out of the oven or I’ll give Alex some money to get a takeaway while he’s at practice and I’ll just have whatever we have in. I’m hoping to get it finished in the next couple of days anyway so I can get back to normality! I think I’m getting through it so quickly because its such an easy read. I’m used to books that you really have to read to understand. Its nice to have a bit of a change.

Alex and I were watching a program yesterday on MTV1 (I’m not telling you which one because I’m embarrassed to say that I watch it!) and this woman bought her husband a Ferrari. He was “Oooh”ing and “Aaah”ing over it and I really don’t like them. I’d much rather have a Cadillac. They’re so much prettier. On Cribs they are always going on about their Cadillac grills but just a regular old Cadillac with its normal grill will do me!

By the way, I’ve only had six entries to my contest so make sure you enter before it closes! You still have eight days left but if your like me, you’ll forget about it until its too late!

Book Contest Number One!

Contests

I said last week that I would start doing contests soon and here we are! I will admit, I haven’t bought this book yet but I will do so in the next week or so while the contest is still active. You know, I don’t even own this book as I borrowed it from my library. I’ll have to buy one for myself too. I’m really excited about this actually. I love buying books for my friends for their birthdays – I actually bought this same book for my friend Suzi for her birthday – so giving a book away is just as fun.

The book is The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. I read it this year back in January and to begin with, I didn’t make much time to read it. About two weeks after starting it, I really started to read it – two or three chapters a day, and I fell in love with the story. The basic outline is that its based around an old lady called Grace who was a one time maid working at Riverton Manor back in the 1920′s. While she was there, she was the only witness to the death of a poet apart from sisters Hannah and Emmeline who never spoke again after the event. In 1999, Grace gets visited by a director who is making a film about the death of the poet at Riverton Manor. You will seriously love this book. You really care about each character and I cried lots at the end. If you’ve already read/got this book, enter anyway and give it to a family member or a friend!

Right, the rules. The contest opens at the posting of this blog entry and ends May 12th at 11AM GMT. You have until that time to post your blog entry on your website. All you need to do is copy the following below into a blog and then leave a comment on this entry with a link to that blog entry so I know where to look! Oh, if you don’t have a blog, just leave a comment here and let me know you want to be entered. The winner will be announced around 9PM on the 12th and once I have the winners address, the book will be posted to them that week. Make sure you add the links like I have, in the entry.

Katy is holding a contest at her personal blog – Faster the Chase – to win a book, The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. To have a chance at winning, all you have to do is head over to this entry at her website and copy the text at the bottom on to a blog at your website. Easy, right? This will be the first of many contests so make sure you check out her blog regularly. She will ship anywhere in the world so everyone is free to enter.

Good luck!

Not For Me

Books

I’m not enjoying PS I Love You very much at the moment. Its just totally not my type of book. I like the story behind it but I don’t like the way it is written. I remember when I was at school, we had to write a short story for English and when my teacher read it, she told me there was too much speech in it. I never really got what she meant and I was pretty annoyed with her for saying it wasn’t very good. Reading this book, I totally understand what she means. I like lots of description of places and people but PS I Love You is just full of speech. I’m not going to stop reading it but I don’t think I will be reading another of Cecelia Ahern’s books after this.

I got four books out from the library today. I haven’t had any out for a while so I thought I would just get a couple. Two of them are teen books so they won’t take me very long to get through. I can’t wait to get started on Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult though to be honest.

I was thinking earlier, last year on my 21st birthday I got loads of jewelry. I hardly ever get any but I got some lovely earrings and two necklaces last year. I didn’t get any this year. I missed it! Maybe I’ll ask for some for Christmas.

Tattoo Tomorrow!

Books, General

Its my tattoo tomorrow! I’m so, SO excited. The tattoo parlour rang me earlier to make sure I was still coming (its been over a month since I made the booking) and I nearly said “Well, duh. I’ve been counting down the days for about a month!” I really can’t wait. Its at 12PM and I’m in there for two hours. I know I’m not going to deal very well with it (I get very sick and faint with tattoos) but it’ll be totally worth it. I’m not going to take photos until its healed so you probably won’t see a picture of it for about a week but as soon as its all healed up, I’ll make sure I take some decent photos for you all :D . Lets just hope he can do more than just the outline so that you can’t see my other tattoo underneath it for as long as it takes me to afford the next session.

I finished my book, The Tenth Circle yesterday by the way. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to read another Jodi Picoult. I decided to read PS I Love You. I’m only at the beginning, about three chapters in so I can’t really make a comment but I hope its as good as I expect it to be.
