Last Minute UK Breaks

Sponsored

I’ve always wanted to just book a last minute weekend break to somewhere in the UK with Alex. Obviously its not really possible now we have Meghan but when we first got together, I always wanted to do it. Even though its not all that far away from us, I would love to go to Manchester for the weekend. We’ve never had a night out in Manchester because to be honest, if we waited until Meghan was in bed before we left, we’d probably only get to Manchester at about 8.30PM and we’d have to get the 10.45PM train home so its not really a proper night out. A taxi home is a ridiculous amount of money so we wouldn’t even consider doing that. I keep saying to Alex that for our four year anniversary next year we should go to Manchester over night then we can have a proper night out at all the pubs and bars we want to go in and not have to worry about missing the train home.

I keep looking at last minute breaks every couple of weeks just to see how much it would cost us to go to Manchester, or even London over our anniversary in February. I almost booked something last night actually but I thought I’d better sort it out with Alex first. The fact that we don’t really have the money to pay for it right now probably should have put me off more. I’ve not even asked my sister if she would have Meghan overnight or not yet! I’m sure she would. Every single year for our anniversary we say we’re going to do something nice because we didn’t the previous year and we still have yet to actually do anything. It would be really nice to do something next year and I’m hoping we get that whole night in Manchester.

Shopping Online

Sponsored

I don’t know about you but when I go shopping online, I don’t just look in one place. If I’m buying a CD, I’ll probably look at two or three different online stores to see who has the best overall price (after shipping) before I actually commit to buying. The same with toys, books, DVD’s and games. The only thing I don’t shop around for as much is clothes. If I see something I like, I’ll just go and buy it straight away. Your probably thinking it would be easier for me to just go on a price comparison website than running around everywhere but to be quite honest, I have never found a price comparison website that I liked. Well until the other day.

Shop.com is a price comparison website with a bit of a difference. It does the job of an ordinary price comparison website but it also makes it so you can shop for everything, all in the same place. Its great as you don’t need to keep switching websites and filling in your information all over again, you just do it once and your done! Once your find the best prices for what you want, you can take a look at the website’s coupons to see if you can save even more and they also have a few free shipping offers that you might be able to take advantage of. Its a great website and it will fantastic for Christmas when I need to shop for the whole family. It just makes life that little bit easier.

Medical ID

Sponsored

Universal Medical ID have recently expanded their services to the UK. They are a company that sell medical id jewellery. They offer features such as personalized engraving and sizing, online medical registry, a wide range of styles and free engraving warranty. Their website lists on going medical conditions and drug and food allergies that qualify for people to wear a medical ID. As most of you know, Meghan is allergic to fish and although it isn’t a very strong allergy, it still makes her very sick if she eats fish. Universal Medical ID make jewellery to fit children which is great as most food allergies are only around in childhood. Their website has an easy to build ID page where you can pick various metals, chain styles, clasps, charms and more. It’s definitely something worth thinking about if you have medical condition or allergy that could be life threatening.

New Glasses

Sponsored

I have two pairs of glasses at home. Both the same pair only one is blue and brown and the other is pink and purple. I couldn’t decide which ones I wanted and it was buy one get one free at the time.  I can only wear the pink and purple pair now (my least favourite) as Meghan has scratched the lenses quite badly on the other pair. I keep saying to Alex that I would love some new pairs as I’ve had these for over a year now but I think it’s going to be at least another six months before I get some. I found a website, zennioptical.com that sells some really nice frames at a low price. They also supply a range of lenses for you to choose from. Take a look, you might find something you like!

Father’s Day

Sponsored

Can you believe its Father’s Day on Sunday? How quickly has that come round? It didn’t seem like long ago it was Mother’s Day (it was March for me) but thats just flown by. I have no idea what to get Alex. I’m thinking along the lines of a DVD or CD but I’d like something a bit more gifty rather than just something I know he wants. A box of chocolates might be good. Fannie May sell gourmet chocolates and they have a special selection for Father’s Day. They all look really yummy and everything comes in lovely selection boxes. At least I can could share then!

Euro 2008

Sponsored

Lots of people all over the UK, and Europe love football. For most people its their nations sport. I myself have never been able to get into it. Watching men kick a ball around a field for 90 minutes doesn’t really appeal to me. I do know when the important matches are on and I like to know when certain teams have won or lost – just so I’m up to date with everything. One of the big tournaments of the year is the European Championship. This year its taking place in Austria and Switzerland and it began on Saturday. I think its crazy how British fans will travel all over Europe just to see the England team play. But, as I’ve just found out, we didn’t qualify this time around.

When people watch the football there is a lot at stake as they desperately want their team to win and make it to the final. There is even more at stake when there is money behind it. Places like bet365 poker allow you to bet on every single match there is in Euro 2008. They also have at the moment the 2008 Poker Championships which links into the football. There’s also the Last Man Standing bet which can win you up to $14,000 just by beating your opponent. Like I said, it means a lot more when there’s money behind it.

The 2008 poker championships at bet365 – your country needs you!

Now is the time to stand up and be counted, as this June bet365 are looking to discover the number one poker playing nation with their 2008 Poker Championship. During the championship they’ll be giving away more than $50,000, with the chance to receive DOUBLE prize money if your country tops the table, this is one event you don’t want to miss.

So if your football team doesn’t win at Euro 2008, you can help ensure that they do at poker!

The 2008 Poker Championships is made up of three pulsating Races. Players from all countries are registered automatically to compete for the individual prizes in all three Races. However, if you are to gain access to the maximum rewards, you must contribute to your country’s success. Guide your country to a top two finish in the Group Qualifying stage; then battle it out with the other qualifiers in the Super League. Players from the top four countries in the final table will earn a Prize Money Multiplier on their individual Super League winnings.

You can find more information about the 2008 Poker Championships on the bet365 website.

During June, the poker room at bet365 also has the European Championships of Online Poker (ECOOP) II running with a guaranteed prize pool of $3,500,000 plus the FREECOOP (entry into the ECOOP II for nothing). The WSOP Last Man Standing promotion is still running, as well as many other chances to qualify for the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

So if you like variety and value in your poker game then bet365 is the place to be this June.

Astronomy

Sponsored

When I was younger I was really into all things to do with space – astronomy, new finds, etc. I even had a telescope which now I think is at my Grandad’s brothers house. I really miss having my telescope, even though I didn’t really have the room for it and where I lived was too bright for me to even see anything. Optics Planet sells telescopes amongst other things including binoculars, Rifle Scope, night vision, tripods and radar guns. They sell in the industries best brands from Nikon to Celestron. They have information on their site about various hobbies and the best gear to suit your needs. Plus they have free UPS shipping on most orders over $29.95. Looking at their website really wants me to get a new telescope. I used to look at the sky for hours and I’d love to be able to do it again.

Art Gallery

Sponsored

I love art galleries. I’m one of those people that can spend hours just looking at art while everyone else is getting fed up and wants to leave. I don’t like that stupid kind of art that doesn’t look anything like art. I remember I went to the Tate Gallery in Liverpool back in 2003 (I think) and one of the ‘pieces’ was a supermarket. This artist had made a room look exactly like the inside of a supermarket. Every day they changed over all the goods that would expire – milk, bread, etc – and you could just walk around it. I’m sorry but that is not art. Art is a beautiful painting or a sculpture or even something abstract but a supermarket, is not art.

Park West Gallery holds fine art auctions all over the United States and Canada and is home to the largest fine art collection in the world. Their affiliate company Park West at Sea conducts cruise ship art auctions around the world. I’ve never been to an art auction but it sounds like it auctions off just the kind of art that I would buy.
