Here I Come!

Music/Gigs

Do you realise that the Leeds Festival is a meer five weeks and two days away? I’m totally not prepared. I need to buy loads of things to go with – my ticket would be a good one! I’m waiting until about two weeks before to buy my ticket as the prices on ebay at the moment are ridiculous. Face value is £155 and at the moment they are selling for £269 and there is no way I’m paying that much. I know I’ll get one for around £200 nearer the time. That’s what Alex’s brother did last year. I need to make a list of things to take with me. I’m going shopping on Saturday so I might get a few bits then. What do you think to me getting one of those inflatable boats? You know just in case we get that good old British weather, haha.

Another Gig

House, Music/Gigs

Alex’s band had another gig last night at WA1 in Warrington. They played really well and after the band that we’re on before them, it was a nice change. I’m not being biased but the band that we’re on before them were so boring. Plus every single song was called “love” sometime or something “love”. The last song was called “Summer Love” and the singer said  “This song is dedicated to someone I love. That girl in the blue top over there.” I almost threw up. I’m so glad Alex is the drummer so he can’t embarass me like that, haha. Alex band have a bit more “go” in them. You can actually dance to The Soul. Anyway, it was a good gig and I got some great photos which are over at my Flickr.

When I was little I always wanted a tv mount so I could put my TV on the wall to save space. We’re eventually going to move Emelye into the little bedroom and Meghan into the big bedroom just because Meghan’s here more than Emelye is. When we do, I think we will get Emelye a TV mount for her room. The small bedroom really is small and she’s not going to be able to have as much furniture as she has now. Its going to be at least a year if not more before we swap the rooms around but its something to think about.

Crappy Day

Alex, General, Music/Gigs

Yeah, today had been rather crap. Not for any other reason than I’ve been feeling crap. We, all three of us were in town for 10AM this morning and we got home around 12.30PM. After about an hour of being home, once I’d got Meghan in bed for a nap, I just started to get really down on myself. I have no idea why but I’ve not felt like this for a while. I cheered up a bit when Asda delivered my food shopping and I could open the fridge without trying to decide which items I could mix together to make something edible. I think two fridge packs of Coke Zero and Diet Coke would make anyone happy. The Ben & Jerry’s Baked Alaska in the freezer is a winner too. Anyway, I’m starting to feel better now. Its only 9.30PM but I’m currently in bed because I had a late night and an early morning today and I just want to be in bed, even if I’m not actually asleep. As much as I complain about this laptop, its nice to actually have one so I can do what I need to do in bed rather than being uncomfortable at the computer desk downstairs.

The gig last night went alright. The band were fine but Dave’s microphone kept cutting out quite a lot and the sound engineer was too busy drinking beer with his mates to do something about it. The band were finished playing by 10.30PM by which time I was ready for bed but the train wasn’t until 11.30PM so I spent the rest of the night just sat down, waiting go and yawning. The train was full and stopped at every damn stop which meant we didn’t get home until 12AM. There was a strange man on the train too who kept moving seats and had a thing about the women on there that we’re sleeping. Alex wanted to say something to him but I told him to keep quiet. You never know what might happen.

On a similar subject; after Alex sound checked, when they had around an hour before they went, Alex and I went to McDonalds (we said we’d never go again but we ended up just walking there without realising). While there, some guy came up to us, calling us “bud”, asking for a bit of cash. Alex gave him a bit, just to get rid of him and next thing, he’s having an argument with a member of staff. He said something to him and stormed out but not before throwing a few chairs and pushing a plant over. A few minutes later, who do we see across the road? The same guy, only this time, he’s got a cane from somewhere and he’s hobbling over to people (after practically running out of McDonalds) asking them for money! What an idiot.

Night Out

General, Music/Gigs

Alex has got a gig tonight at the Thirsty Scholar in Manchester where he had the last one I went to. I wasn’t originally planning on going but I am now. I’m managed to convince Amy to babysit (money works wonders, haha). I’m still not too sure about going but I’m just gonna go. Its only for a few hours and at least I won’t have a burning new tattoo to put up with this time! I’m leaving around 8PM and I should be back before midnight. Hopefully.

I’m due for quite a reasonable sized payment via paid blogging on Friday. I didn’t think I would earn as much as I do but I’m enjoying it. No, I don’t love the ads on my website as much as I should but it brings money in and thats really helping at the moment. I suppose you can’t pick and chose can you. When I got paid for everything I have done up to this point I will be nearly half way there to buying my Leeds ticket. Leeds have added a load of new bands to the line up recently and now I’m even more excited. The bands they have added that I can’t wait to see include, The Music, Pendulum (recent new love), CSS, Less Than Jake, Alkaline Trio and Kids In Glass Houses (another recent new love). I saw The Music back in May 2005 in Warrington and they were amazing. It was a great night out too as I went with my friend Faye from college, Amy and a bunch of Faye’s friends. We had such a good time. I hope they live up to my expectations from last time. Their new song is so good.

Meghan’s waking up from her nap so I better go and get her.

Major Stiff Arm

General, Music/Gigs

I got my tattoo. I got there for 12PM but he didn’t call me in until after half twelve. The design he did for me is beautiful and I loved it straight away. The first twenty minutes of him tattooing me were terrible. I did my whole feeling sick/blurry vision/almost fainting thing. After it passed it was fine though. It really did hurt though. More than either of my other tattoo’s I’ve had. In a way, I’m glad I only got the two hours done yesterday because of the pain but I would have liked to have had it done all at once so I don’t have to go through the lightheadedness again. I only got the koi on the front of my arm but next time I’ll be getting the koi underneath. I’m dreading it because when he was going round the sides on to the same type of skin, it was really quite painful. It’ll be worth it though. Its going to take another six hours – two for the other koi and four for colouring. It’ll look so nice when its finished. My arm is quite stiff today as its all scabbed over. Here’s a little preview of it for now. Nothing more until it heals!

Alex’s band had a gig last night at a pub in Manchester called the Thirsty Scholar. I left home at 6.30PM to catch the bus and then the train to Manchester while Amy had Meghan. I got into Manchester around an hour later and I hung around the pub until the band had sound checked and then me and Alex went for a McDonalds, which by the way was horrible. They were on at 10PM and played for around twenty minutes. They did pretty well and got quite a good response. We stayed in the pub until we had to get our train a 11.30PM. It was full of Manchester United fans as they played last night. I hate football so much. I just hate the culture that comes with it. We were talking to a lad on the train (well, Alex and Matt was) who reminded me of one of the main characters from Green Street. I’m so glad Alex doesn’t like football because I really couldn’t cope with him if he did.

Do Me a Favour?

Alex, Music/Gigs

Alex’s band The SouL are currently signed up for the Road to V. Basically bands sign up with the chance to play the V Festival at both venues in August. On April 21st, 14 bands get picked to play the Road to V in Liverpool and London and then two bands play the actual festival. Alex’s band are doing fairly well at the moment. They have quite a few views and about 50 votes but I was wondering if everyone could do them a massive favour and vote for them? You need to sign up and put your mobile number (since its run by Virgin) in but as long as you click the boxes to not receive anything from them, you won’t get random text messages. I haven’t anyway. Only one of the band actually gets through because of the voting, the other thirteen get hand picked by judges but every little bit helps. Alex is dreaming about it every night and he’s getting really excited about the thought of playing V Festival. Even if they don’t get to V, the band will get publicity on Channel 4 during Road to V. If you do vote, please comment and let me know so I can send you much love :D . (If your in the US and you’d like to vote, start the mobile number with 079 and then just add eight random numbers ;) . It only excepts British mobiles)

Vote for The Soul here – http://www.roadtov.com/profile/43709

Just A Quick One

Health, Music/Gigs, Work

I’ll have to try and make this quick as I still have loads of tidying up to do before Meghan wakes up.

  • I upgraded to WordPress 2.5 the other day and up to now I’m liking it. I was only on 2.2 before I made the upgrade so there’s a lot of new stuff I can do that I couldn’t do before. The design is a lot nicer than 2.2 and I find it nicer to use to blog with.
  • Some of you know but most of you don’t; I didn’t start work on Monday. I couldn’t leave Meghan. I didn’t sleep too well on Sunday night worrying about what I was going to do about it and when I woke up in the morning, I just emailed my boss and told her I couldn’t come in. She was really nice about it which helped because I felt like I’d let everyone down. I feel loads better being at home with Meghan so I’ll try again probably in a year and see how I feel then.
  • I’m definitely going to the Leeds festival :) . Amy rang me yesterday and said that her and Mike (her boyfriend) are going so I can go with them. I’m so happy. I won’t be buying my ticket until a couple of weeks before since I have no money right now and I think they have all sold out anyway. You have to love ebay.
  • I’ve not been very well since Tuesday night. I feel better today but I’m still not 100%. I started feeling sick at around 7PM on Tuesday for no reason and I went and got in bed at around 9PM because I just didn’t know what to do with myself. Yesterday I spent quite a lot of the day in bed and I hardly ate anything because I just couldn’t. I kept going dizzy because I’d hardly eaten anything. I didn’t sleep too well last night because of all the sleep I’d had in the day and I woke up around 4AM starving which is probably a good sign. I’m just taking it easy today and not eating very much. Fingers crossed whatever I had doesn’t come back.

Another Gig

Meghan, Music/Gigs, Work

Alex has another gig tonight at the Dry Bar in Manchester. He left at 2.30PM as he had to be there for 4PM to sound check. They’re headlining so they’re not on until around 10.45PM. We’ve ordered a mini bus as there’s quite a few of us going and it means we can actually get home. The last train is at 11.15PM and they’ll have only just finished so there will be no chance of us catching that last train. I’m really looking forward to it. Its a great venue and its awesome that they’re headlining. I’m taking photo’s again so fingers crossed the lighting is better this time. I think I got my best photo’s that I’ve taken at that venue.

After all that progress last week at nursery, Friday was terrible. She was tired when we got there and then I left pretty much straight away but she saw me go. She burst into tears but I left her for around five minutes to see if they could calm her down but it wasn’t working. I went back in with her for around ten/fifteen minutes and left when she was painting and wasn’t looking for me. I went back at the end of the two hours and she was in one of the women’s arms crying her eyes out. I think to be honest, she was just overtired. I’ve booked her in for another settling in session on Monday for three hours and I’m hoping she’s fine because my hours have changed and she’s now going to be there Thursday and Friday. I’m having second thoughts about working mainly because of the money situation (it may work out more expensive for me to work) and also because of Meghan.

I’ve told Alex if I don’t work I want another baby instead, haha.

Yuck

General, Meghan, Music/Gigs, Photography

I have just had THE worst pizza I have ever had. The one night I order in while Alex isn’t here (he doesn’t like pizza) and I order somewhere new and it was horrible. I feel really sick now.

Anyway, Meghan’s in the nursery for an hour tomorrow from 10AM. I’m hoping it goes well. Obviously an hour isn’t going to be anything like when she’s there for a full eight hours but its a start. I’m hoping to get her in again on Thursday for two hours. Fingers crossed it goes well!

Alex’s gig last night went really well. They had good feedback from both gigs they did apart from the vocals not being loud enough but that wasn’t their fault. I don’t understand why Alex says that he’s crap all the time because he’s far from it. He’s improved so much since I first got with him and I think its about time he got some recognition for it. Lets hope this band gets further than his last band did.

Photo wise; they didn’t turn out that well. The lighting was really low but I managed to save some in Photoshop. I really need that new lens. If you want to take a look at them then go over to my Flickr account. I have just uploaded The Soul’s photo’s at the moment as I haven’t had chance to sort through the other bands photos yet.

Lazy

Dreams, Family, General, Music/Gigs, Photography

I’m sorry for my lack of posting. I’m just lazy to be honest. I’ve not really been that busy so I have no excuse. I’ve started the day with every intention of blogging but not actually doing it. And now I’m here I have no idea what to write so I’m doing one of those cool bulleted posts. Enjoy!

  • I went to bed at 7PM last night after I put Meghan to bed because I felt so sick. I didn’t get up again until 7.45Am this morning when Meghan woke up. I feel loads better after that long sleep though and it helped me stop feeling sick which was the plan.
  • I had a dream about Carlos from Desperate Housewives last night. It was very sexy, although no actual sex took place. He’s never been the guy I liked from the show so I don’t really know where it came from. I really can’t wait for the new series to start again next Wednesday now :) .
  • Alex has two gigs tonight. He might actually be on stage now to be honest. I’m going to the later one, leaving at about 7.30PM. I’m taking photos and for another band that are playing too. Lets hope I can pull some photos out of nothing for them because if I can then it might mean more work.
  • We had Emelye from Thursday evening until yesterday evening. Its nice having her but I’m looking forward to the break!
  • Oh, and Happy Easter!
